Fremantle Confirmed as Australia's Sole SailGP Host for 2027
Fremantle has been confirmed as the only Australian stop on the 2027 SailGP global racing calendar, following a highly successful sold-out debut in 2026 that demonstrated the city's capacity to host world-class international sporting events. Fremantle will feature as the second stop on the 2027 SailGP Season calendar, driving increased visitation to Western Australia while also serving as the home race for Australia's championship-leading BONDS Flying Roos team, adding considerable local interest to an already prestigious event.
The decision to return to Fremantle reflects the strong economic and promotional outcomes delivered by the 2026 season opener. The event attracted an estimated 14,288 attendees across two days, drawing both local and interstate visitors to Fremantle's iconic foreshore. Visitation and local spend in central Fremantle over the event weekend rose more than 20% year-on-year, while enormous global media coverage showcased Perth and Fremantle to the world. Comparable results are anticipated for 2027.
The 2027 event marks the second year of a three-year agreement to host SailGP in Western Australia from 2026 to 2028, reinforcing the State's reputation as a premier destination for major international sporting events and providing the continuity needed for businesses and stakeholders to plan ahead.
Fremantle on the World Stage
SailGP's seventh season will be the league's biggest global expansion to date, with 13 events scheduled across Asia, Australia, Europe, North America, South America and the Middle East. New destinations including Hong Kong and new European stops will join the championship calendar in 2027, alongside the return of San Francisco and other iconic host cities, placing Fremantle among a prestigious lineup of world-class international destinations.
The success of SailGP is further evidence of Fremantle's growing reputation as a destination capable of delivering major international events at the highest level. Beyond world-class sailing, the city has demonstrated time and again its ability to host and support a diverse events calendar — from international music festivals and arts programs to cultural celebrations that draw visitors from across Australia and the globe. That track record not only builds confidence among event organisers and investors, but strengthens Fremantle's position as a dynamic, year-round destination that punches well above its weight on the world stage.
