Western Australia is home to a connected health tech ecosystem, and Fremantle has all the right ingredients to support its expansion.

As the largest employment sector in the City of Fremantle, supporting 6,494 local jobs in 2023–24, the city plays a key role in supporting Western Australia’s ambition to become a global leader in health, social services and education.

Fremantle’s reputation for liveability, combined with the creation of a global talent hub, can play a pivotal role in attracting talent and position WA to be globally relevant and competitive.

Advanced thinking and innovation is required to invest in education and training to ensure we have highly qualified and skilled people to lead projects that will drive the diversification agenda.

Fremantle is home to significant institutions driving research, education, and clinical innovation. Fremantle Hospital, part of the Fiona Stanley Fremantle Hospitals Group, is a key public teaching hospital undergoing major expansion, including new mental health beds and a 24-hour urgent care service, demonstrating continued investment in high quality healthcare.

Home to the Spinnaker Health Research Foundation and Australia’s University of Notre Dame, the Fremantle campus is a cornerstone for health and medical education, offering diverse programs and leading collaborative research through its Institute for Health Research (IHR).

As Fremantle becomes increasingly attractive as a hub for health and medical sciences, more organisations operating in the biotech therapeutics and diagnostics sector are choosing to call the city home.

Alongside the Hospital Research Foundation Group, these collective institutions highlight Fremantle’s role in fostering innovation, education, and research that contribute to the advancement of healthcare in Western Australia.
