Fremantle Welcomes Another Strong Cruise Season

19 October 2026

Fremantle's cruise season is underway, bringing thousands of visitors to the city and providing a valuable boost for local businesses, tourism operators and the broader visitor economy.

As Western Australia's primary cruise gateway, Fremantle will welcome 26 cruise ship visits during the 2026-27 season, with vessels arriving from around the world and introducing new visitors to the city's unique blend of heritage, culture, hospitality and waterfront experiences.

Each cruise arrival creates economic activity throughout the city. Passengers and crew contribute to local spending across accommodation, cafes, restaurants, retail, attractions and transport services, while cruise operations support jobs and supply chains throughout the region.

The season follows continued investment and collaboration between industry, government and local stakeholders to strengthen Fremantle's position as a leading cruise destination. Cruise tourism remains an important contributor to the city's visitor economy, creating opportunities for businesses to connect with domestic and international travellers and encouraging repeat visitation beyond a single port call.

Fremantle's compact, walkable city centre is a key advantage for the sector. Visitors arriving at the Passenger Terminal can easily access the city's historic west end, waterfront precincts, boutique retail, dining experiences and cultural attractions, ensuring more visitor spending remains within the local economy.
The 2026-27 season also builds momentum ahead of the commencement of home-porting operations by Sapphire Princess from Fremantle in 2027-28. Home-porting delivers significantly greater economic benefits than traditional port visits, with passengers regularly spending additional nights in accommodation, dining locally and exploring the region before and after their cruise.

For Fremantle, the cruise industry continues to play an important role in supporting local jobs, attracting visitors and showcasing the city to new audiences. As more travellers discover Fremantle as both a destination and a gateway to Western Australia, the sector is helping drive long-term growth across tourism, hospitality, retail and related industries.

Cruise Season Highlights:

  • 26 cruise ship visits scheduled for Fremantle during the 2026-27 season.
  • Thousands of domestic and international visitors expected to arrive via Fremantle Port.
  • Five vessels making their maiden visit to Western Australia this season.
  • Strong economic benefits for local hospitality, accommodation, retail and tourism businesses.
  • Home-porting operations set to expand from 2027-28, creating increased economic opportunities for Fremantle and the wider region.
