Piazza welcomes new artwork amid revitalisation

24 February 2026

Fremantle Piazza recently welcomed a major new public artwork by internationally recognised Portuguese artist Bordalo II, who completed one of his signature Big Trash Animals in the heart of the city. The artist visited Fremantle to install the piece, adding a standout feature to the Piazza’s growing public art collection.

Bordalo II is known globally for large animal sculptures created from discarded materials, which draw attention to environmental issues while enhancing urban spaces. His work has become a popular feature in cities worldwide, helping to attract visitors and support local activity.

The addition of this artwork marks another step in the ongoing revitalisation of Fremantle Piazza, contributing to the area’s appeal for residents, businesses and investors and reinforcing Fremantle’s reputation as a creative and vibrant place to live, work or visit.

The Piazza's evolving tenant mix now includes Basket Studio, Craft Club, Focus Pocus, Not Random, Shayde De Soleil, pop‑up café Pally Canteen alongside some long‑standing favourites like The Pickled Fairy. The recent arrival of Education provider IDEA (Innovation Design Entrepreneurship Academy) further strengthens the mix of uses in the precinct.
